Arjun Menon, an Indian Army kid, created a photo series ‘The Extraordinary’ that captures the spirit of the Indian Army on their job. The Indian Army is known to be one of the most versatile armed forces across the globe. The project aims to explore and highlight these extraordinary men, women and machines that make this organisation so diverse, multicultural and a unique force.
He was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to photograph few training, pseudo combat and practice sessions at some remote bases. At first the officers were sceptical about him as he was just a random photographer asking to be taken to their secret bases to photograph the units. After a lot of convincing and meetings back and forth and realising the genuineness of his motives, they finally got on board as excited as Arjun had been. A lot of conceptualisation followed and the results we have are simply captivating.
The Indian Army is currently short of 9000 officers. He says that through this series if he manages to convince even 1 kid to join the forces, then he would consider this as mission accomplished.
This series, he says is a tribute to his father, a pilot in the Indian Army who lost his life 16 years ago to a helicopter crash.
Happy Republic Day. Jai hind.
